Bold Strokes

Fleur Wright loves big, bold brush strokes, sun-drenched colors, and challenges as big as her canvases. Fleur studied art in college but, at first, pursued a more traditional career path as a marketing executive. After catching a second wind in the foothills of New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains thanks to a post-retirement move from the Midwest, Fleur fell into a beautiful rhythm that infuses her work with passion and purpose… and defines her work today.

Inspired by the natural colors and sunshine of the Southwest, she began to experiment with more abstract forms, the use of intensely colored house paints, larger canvases and bigger brushes. Her style grew more vibrant, daring and dynamic. Moving away from her figurative work in oils that had previously defined her painting career, her work gained focus and momentum with Bold Strokes of color, movement and energy.

She carries this intense energy over to her photography. Self-taught, Fleur applies the
techniques learned in design class to her photographic images. Texture, contrast, balance, mood and setting… all working together as brush strokes in the photographic compositions that she lovingly captures. And as a story teller, she always carries her camera with her when travelling. The moments she captures are not only memories, but artistic representations of places beyond.

Fleur Wright, a native of Chicago, received her BA from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a major in art. She also studied drawing and painting at Rockford University in Rockford, Illinois. Fleur currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she continues to study her craft. Fleur has exhibited her work at Coe College and at several shows in Santa Fe.
